Nokia unveils new UMA VoIP cellphone

Nokia has partnered with France Telecom SA for the first release of their new UMA phone. It is going to be packaged under Orange brand along with LiveBox – a service offering phone, TV and internet in Belgium, Britain, France, Poland, Spain and Netherlands.

It is going to offer a smooth switching between the public, free wifi VoIP calls and the traditional cellular phone calls.

"Then you walk out of the door and the call is seamlessly handed off to the cellular network," said Nokia Executive Vice President Kai Oistamo. "There are no dropped calls — it‘s like moving from one cell to another one in a cellular network today."

New Skype 2.0 for Pocket PC

Skype has just released the new 2.0 version of its SkypeMate VoIP software for Pocket PCs and as always its nice and free.

Among the Skype Mate VoIP application's new features the software includes support for Windows Mobile 5.0, new set of additional languages, enhanced voice quality and support for screens with 240x240 resolution.

"Skype for Pocket PC 2.0 delivers greater flexibility for callers who want to make free calls or chat without the need for a desktop PC," said Niklas Zennstrom, Skype CEO and co-founder. "Together with our efforts to incorporate Skype into mobile phones, this next generation version of Skype for Pocket PC devices extends the reach of our popular software to an even broader market segment."
